Idea Space is an architecture and interior design firm specializing in thoughtfully designed homes and commercial spaces. With a name change and rebrand, we brought to life the creativity and sense of place that the brand promise embodied. The name and brand mark created an open door to enter into new possibilities in contemporary architecture for work and living.

Previously Studio China (pronounced Keen-a), the firm had a challenge. Everyone was mispronouncing their name. What they do wasn't well represented. Through our strategic naming process, the agency became “Idea Space”. For founders Darren and Julie, the big “what if” questions are the key to maximizing the potential of every project, and the new name captures that approach of curiosity.
From there we developed a new brand identity — one that reflects the creativity and possibility that the Idea Space team brings. The simple, modern brand mark paired with a lower case, friendly typeface and bold color is evocative of a portfolio of work that is highly functional, deeply human and incredibly creative.
We carried their new brand identity into a full website redesign. Our process always starts with strategy, keeping the client’s goals and the user experience top of mind. For Idea Space, we developed wireframes of each site page to hone in on function and flow. Once the layout was approved, we added in color and design.
“After 10 years in business as Studio China Architecture + Design we decided it was time to rethink our branding in an effort to be more in line with our business aspirations and developing culture. Upon hearing our goals and target audience, they asked us if we had ever considered changing the name of our practice to be more aligned with the image we were striving to put forth and clientele we aimed to acquire. A bold and brilliant suggestion. Idea Space Architecture + Design was then born. We are beyond thrilled with the end result of our name and branding. Everything 7 Layer Studio created for us perfectly reflects our brand.”
